These are my images from the 52nd Grammy Award show. Once again, i’m terribly slow to process and post, perhaps they’re practically irrelevant now? Or perhaps they’re still interesting to see?

I had the great honor of attending the Bowl’s opening night (yes, it took me a long time to post this), to see the Josh Groban and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa get inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. Performances and presentations by them as well as: Trisha Yearwood, John Williams, Frederica von Stade, Angélique Kidjo,Roger Daltrey, and Garth Brooks as well as the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by Thomas Wilkins. It was a wonderful evening! The bowl is always a great time, epecially with box seats, sake, cheese & crackers.

the Crystal Method’s show was amazing, had me dancing the whole time. It was only disappointing when the stage manager forced them to stop playing..

So in order to get into the Coachella Music Festival as a photographer, I had to sign a standard waiver, but then also had to sign an additional waiver for Morrissey, which stated that if I took any photographs of Morrissey, or his show, all pictures belong to Morrissey & company, and I may not use, display, etc any of them for anything other than the publication I represented at the event (once, and only within 12 months). After the 12 months, I must surrender my “negatives” (I’m not sure how that works in the now digital world) to Morrissey & company. His show was certainly decent, except when he walked off stage. Near the end of his show, he apparently smelled BBQ, cooking meat. He is so vehemently vegan, that he walked off stage in protest. Anyway, here is a picture from his show with appropriate censoring:

Coachella 2009 was amazing, just like the other Coachella events I’ve attended. We had the good fortune to stay in a house just a few miles from the event, and thanks to a very generous host, Jim who put us up.
I took 3667 pictures (29.8GB) in just 3 days. Needless to say, it will take a while for me to sift through and edit them. I’ll do them in batches, and here are the first: Art installations and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (who put on a great show!)

This was my second experiment with HDR, and I only took one bracketed shot, as there wasnt a ton of sun, and it was a tad windy and cold. For those that don’t know HDR is “high dynamic range”, in which several exposure bracketed shots are taken of the same subject, and then later combined using software (such as photoshop or photomatix) to achieive an image with very high dynamic range. I used a photomatix photoshop plugin for this to give it a bit of that almost “electric” surreal look and exagerated saturation.
